
Plastics Project
Pollution from single-use plastics harms our planet, our wildlife, and our own health. Much of this pollution comes from plastic items we don't need in our lives at all - from plastic grocery bags to polystyrene (aka Styrofoam) takeout food containers. The plastics project aims to push forward both local and statewide legislation to ban single-use plastic bags. Currently, we are focused on forming key partnerships with other organizations, such as ANJEC and the Plastic Pollution Coalition, & taking action for a state plastics bill to pass through the state Assembly.

Elif Cam is a high school junior who is passionate about debating, reading, doing trail work, and participating in environmental activism. She is an intern at the Environmental Education Fund and is the founder and co-leader of an environmental advocacy club at her high school. She has spoken at the Princeton Town Council advocating for the Green Amendment, as well as testified in the New Jersey Senate hearing on the Green Amendment. In her free time, she likes to do trail work, go on hikes, read, play the violin, and write music.
Mimansa Kumar is a high school sophomore at Rutgers Preparatory School. She is passionate about the preserving the environment and tries to do so by advocating for the Green Amendment and as an intern with the Environmental Education Fund. Mimansa loves ballet and is a preprofessional student at Princeton Ballet School. Outside of NJSSC, she is a part of her town’s Green Team, which works to integrate sustainable practices into peoples' lives. She is also the co-president of her school’s biology club.

Bengu Bulbul is an intern for the Environmental Education Fund as well as a volunteer and leader for the Ridgeview Conservancy, focusing on preserving nature, preserving old forests, exposing youth to nature and trail maintenance. She actively contributes to many environmental initiatives in her community and is also a member of the environmental club at her school, Students for Animal Advocacy and Environmental Action. Apart from her environmental work, Bengu is the founder of the Middle Eastern Student Association at her school, and she's a part of the PHS Choir as well as the cappella group Around 8.
Kayla is a junior at the Kent Place School. Outside of her role on the E-board, she is interested in pursuing the intersections between the environment, journalism, and ethics. Growing up in a polluted city in China instilled in her an awareness of environmental issues and the need for a free press. In the past, she has founded an international organization promoting climate education, served as Editor-in-Chief of Ballast, her school's newspaper, worked on Sea Level Rise research in the Meadowlands, and competed as an Artistic Swimmer.
